I absolutely loved this book. It is a "who dunnit" book set in the Navajo and Hopi Nations lands. There's suspense, lots of action, murder and mayhem in this story. It made me think of Tony Hillerman right away. This is a self published author and there are some scattered places that could use some editing, however it does not take away the enjoyment of reading this story that kept me up till 4 AM. I couldn't put it down. I am definitely keeping this in my cloud library and to read again.Product details

Very much in the style of a well-known Navajo / Arizona crime-writer.
Several editing errors - some paragraphs lost entire sentences.
Excellent story that held my interest despite the errors. I enjoyed the juxtaposition of logical FBI thinking and Navajo beliefs.
I will look for more by this author.
I have to admit when I first started to read the book, I thought this will be dumb and boring. By the time I turned the FIRST page I knew I was wrong! Man, had me sitting day and night to read this book, and that is very unlike me! Nothing gory. Not thing ugly. Just suspense and mystery. You won’t regret reading this book.
I have never liked murder mysteries. Then I chanced onto Hillerman. Now I will read certain mysteries but they must be within the Navajo Nation. This is the first book I have read where the main character is a White Man. Zach doesn't believe in the spirits like the Navajo Police and the Nation do. This story combines my world with the Navajo world in a way I have not read before. I was totally immersed in the story; I'm not sure I understand the ending so I'm not sure I buy the identity of the perp. But if not him - her? - then who!?! It was scary good though and kept me enthralled throughout. I cannot ask for more. I plan to get another in the series and I hope the quality will remain high. And I hope Zach learns that not all things can be explained logically by White Man's ways. We may never learn the secrets of the Ancients.
I love Indian Lore, and their spiritual beliefs from the Ancients, and how hard it is to get Caucasian folks to even listen to the Indian's beliefs, and ways of life. This wild cat is human smart, and cunning, and kills, but doesn't eat. What is going on. There were confusing things to me, but I kept reading on to the end. Frightening story, but well worth it. I'll be re-reading this again.
I just loved this book. I have read several series of books playing in the Navajo and Hopi reservations, Tony Hillerman so far the best. But this one is extremely good, too. This was the first book I read of this author, but I like his style. Kept me sitting on edge, had to read it. Even forgot to eat. And that means something!
It was time for a good mystery, so I leaped into CAT by R. Lawson Gamble. This is book four in the Zack Tolliver, FBI series. However, it was unlike any mystery I'd read previously because the perp Zack and his Navajo friend Eagle Feather pursued was a mountain lion, or was it? The Indian beliefs and traditions made this even more interesting, and the story is not lacking for excitement. I would say I found it more of a thriller than a mystery and thus perhaps not recommended for late night reading, but I really enjoyed it. It was different and engaging. Not to go without mention is my appreciation for missing profanity; that is always a plus for my reading.
Excellent book in this series. Kept me on the edge of my seat. Once again, the folk legends of the southwest tribes permeate the mystery and make it not only a good mystery but a journey through the supernatural world of tribal beliefs that predate modern religions of Europe and the Near East. A really good read...especially if you can suspend your disbelief in goulies and ghosties and long=leggedie beasties and things that go growl in the night!
